“What certificate level are you on?” You might of heard this said in your childs junior lesson. The “My Vida Journey” certificate program is constantly being followed throughout the term as part of the junior development program at Vida Tennis. If you are new to the program, your child should be receiving a fresh new certificate soon. However, if your child has received certificates in previous terms they may be getting a new one in the coming weeks.
To refresh everyone’s memory of the program and to highlight the importance of it, we will be explaining the system during this blog. It is important for all junior players to progress through skills suitable to their age and ability. There’s no point teaching a child to serve with a jump at 5 years old if they cannot hit the ball from above their head. Therefore, during the early stages of the certificate program, we make sure all players have the fundamental skills to build the strokes around later on the program. When a young player enters the program, we make sure they understand basic fundamental motor skills such as throwing, catching, jumping, running and tracking the ball. Additionally, throughout these fundamental skills acquisition lessons, we also make sure they start learning the areas of the court to ensure a well rounded lesson. Playing games with or without a racquet are all designed with the previous skills in mind.
As we move further into the program, we start to get more technical with the development of strokes to ensure maximum progression and success. Once again we start to teach all players the rules of the games as well as etiquette which is important when they start playing matches. This leads into the later parts of the program where the goal of obtaining the “Match” certificate is to enable the player to participate in junior competition with ease. At this stage a player who receives the last certificate will be good enough to rally, serve, volley, keep scores and know the etiquette of a real match. This makes for a really nice transition into junior competition.
So what happens next after your child gets their last certificate? Well if you look below Vida has a number of pathways in your tennis journey. Have a look through the different avenues as tennis can be a sport which will stay with them for life.
